GMC Cycling was founded by Gordon McCauley — one of New Zealand's most decorated road cyclists. Gordon's career achievements include:
- Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist
- 5x New Zealand Road Race Champion
- 3x New Zealand Time Trial Champion
- First New Zealander to break the 50-minute barrier for the 40km Time Trial
